Using Texture - Wedding Invitation

Photoshop Tools Used:

  • Blending style
  • Pattern creation

I was so excited when my friends asked me to design their wedding announcements for them, and I was even more excited when I realized I could use what we learned about patterns to enhance my design. When I created the front of the invite, I knew something was missing. So I added a marbled texture. It's pretty subtle but I think it takes the design from just pictures on a solid background to something more interesting.

I used contrasting fonts to create interest in the blocks of text. The "important" words like the names of the bride and groom, location, and date, were in the formal and colored font, making them stand out. The bride and groom's names stand out the most because of their size. This was done deliberately, obviously, as their names are the most important information on the invite. I pulled to shades of blue from their clothing using the eyedropper tool, which helped to create a cohesive color pallete. The blush pink was added to this color scheme to add some contrast. I used the watercolor flowers as a way to "frame" the words and direct the eyes where to look. In terms of the pictures on the front of the design, I chose them very carefully. Notice how they are similar but just different enough to create interest and avoid looking repetitive. One image has both looking at the camera, one image has one of them looking at the camera, and one image has only one of them looking at the camera. I also noticed that the girl was on the right side of all the pictures, so I went ahead and flipped the last image. I think this makes it so the images don't look like slightly different variations of the same photo. We learned that contrast, or very different, is good, while stuff that is only slightly different looks off to us.
