I recently began a new job as a social media specialist for Independence University, so I decided to base my portfolio piece on my new company. While reading about shapes, I learned that square shapes convey a sense of stability, strength, and professionalism. Those words line up perfectly with the mission of Independence University. That's why I decided to use square shapes in this piece. I chose two square-based icons and colored them with the navy blue that matches the university's brand color. I removed the man from his background to use in my image. He was also frowning in the original image, which didn't look very inviting. I used the liquify filter to give him a smile. I pasted him twice into the image so I could make the icons look like part of the image. I erased the the top version of him to revel the icons. The icons looked noticeable different because the book icon had a thick black border all the way around while the cap did not. I used the line tool to add a black border around the cap. While it was not as thick as the book, I think it still helped and looked nice. I attempted to imitate the fonts used in the logo, with one official serif font and a sans serif font beneath. The man was a free stock image from Pexels.com and the icons were from flaticon.com
