Interesting Text - Social Media Graphic

Photoshop Tools Used:
  • Gradient tool
  • Magnetic lasso tool
  • Layer styles

In this lesson Professor Smith mentioned that we should be focusing on design pieces that are specific to our chosen careers. At my job, we often post on social media for holidays, so I decided to make a social media graphic for Earth Day. I used a radial gradient and a paper-y texture (duplicated four times) to create the background. At first I thought doing masked text might work for the grassy words, but I wanted to make sure some of the grass pieces stuck out past the edge of the text. I ended up tracing the text roughly with the magnetic lasso tool making, making sure the grass pieces stuck out (this ended up being pretty tedious, but I like how it turned out!). I then used the layer styles to add drop shadows, bevel and emboss, and satin effects. I think the grassy texture is a way to catch the viewers eye, and the more reserved serif font used creates a nice contrast. I used a monochromatic color scheme ranging from a very dark green to a light green.
