Reduce Realism - Movie Poster

Photoshop Tools Used:
  • Magic eraser tool
  • Pen tool
  • Paint bucket tool

This week, I was inspired by the minimalist movie posters shown at the end of the lesson. A movie for a book I've read is coming out next month, so I decided to create a poster for the movie. Just for context, the movie is a futuristic story about a virtual reality gaming system. The gaming system has goggles and gloves as equipment, and the main character has a video game character that looks like a knight. That provided the reasoning behind this piece. So I first had to find an icon of a man. I found one that looked like he was wearing a tuxedo. I filled in the white tuxedo bits with the painbucket tool. I selected and jumped the hands up to a new layer so I could color them in. I found a goggles icon to use as well as the knight icon. The biggest issue I had was the fact that the knight icon had a striped background that proved difficult to remove because it blended in with main imaged. After trying a clipping mask, the background eraser, different blending layers and other tools, I finally found success with the magic eraser tool. I chose a very video game style font to fit with the story. I like the pop of color and I think it helps draw the eye. The icons were from pixabay.com.
